Hi, I have two questions.

First, If I put into play a meddling mage[1], can my opponent respond to
it with a Swords to plowshares[2] ?? (I was going to name "Swords to
plowshares")

Second, I am looking for the rules in spanish, somebody know a link or a
page for this?? (I have a basic rule-book that is in the wizard oficial
page)

Hi, I have two questions.

Your opponent can respond perfectly well to the Creature spell with Swords
to Plowshares, but that Swords can't target the spell, because it's not a
creature in play yet. And he won't know what card you're going to name yet
either. (You do not name the card on announcement, or while the Mage spell
is sitting on the stack.)

Meddling Mage WU Creature - Wizard
2/2 As ~ comes into play, name a nonland card. / The named card can't be
played.

The naming of the card is done _as_ MM comes into play; as part of the
resolving of the creature spell. At this time -nobody- has priority, and he
can't "sneak an entire spell announcement and resolution" into the resolution
of your creature spell. By the time he has priority again, the MM will be in
play, the card will be named, and you'll have passed at least once, and he
won't be able to announce he's playing a Swords to Plowshares.

The Mage's "name a nonland card" is NOT any sort of triggered ability; it
does NOT "go on the stack and wait for a while, after the Mage is in play".
There is literally no time that the Mage itself is in play but the card has
not been named.

So no, he's got no chance to get rid of the Mage with a Swords if you name
Swords.

page for this?? (I have a basic rule-book that is in the wizard oficial
page)
Hmm, not sure. ...Okay, they're there but they're only updated to October
1, 2005, the main Ravnica rulebook. Go to the main Magic page,
www.wizards.com/magic , and on the middle of the right side find the Rules
box. Click on Comprehensive Rules, which gets you to the English version,
then at the top of that page in teeny type there's links for Deutsch |
English | Espa\~nol; click on the Espa\~nol link and presto. (The Dutch
ones are also only up to 10/1/05, I see.)

I tried these instructions and ended up with the October 1, 2005
rulebook in English. All the link descriptions are in the language
you choose, but it all links down to the same English documents in
the end. Is this the same for other people?

?? Didn't actually try opening it... Let's see: ...ah yes, there's an
(Ingl\'es) at the end of the line with those links in it. The links to other
pages have half going to the English version too ... and there's a curious
lack of pattern to which FAQs have been translated into what language so
far - plus which they can't seem to decide whether to use "SP" or "ES" as
the abbreviation :)

So yeah, that doesn't do anything to help the original player. Wah. (Though
given the troubles attendant on getting the rulebook to read Exactly Correctly
in _English_, I can quite understand the possible difficulties in translating
it usefully...)

it with a Swords to plowshares[2] ?? (I was going to name "Swords to

Yes. However, the Swords to Plowshares has to target a creature, which
the Meddling Mage on the stack most certainly is not.

Meddling Mage {W}{U} Creature - Wizard 2/2
/ As Meddling Mage comes into play, name a nonland card.
/ The named card can't be played.

Swords to Plowshares {W} Instant
/ Remove target creature from the game. Its controller gains life equal
to its power.

The naming of the card happens during the same event that puts the
Meddling Mage into play from the stack. As far as the game is
concerned, there's a state with the Meddling Mage spell on the stack,
and the following game state is one where the Meddling Mage is in play
and the nonland card has been chosen.

I don't think they do translations of the Comprehensive Rules. I
managed to find this one:

http://www.wizards.com/magic/rules/MTG9EDRulebook_SP.pdf

I couldn't find anything else other than the Spanish translations of
various parts of the Wizards site (I think you get a language/ region
option when you first access the site on a computer). I've no idea
what the search terms would be to look for "spanish magic comprehensive
rulebook" in Spanish...

By complete coincidence, I happened to run into (online) the person
working on the Spanish translation of the Magic Comprehensive
Rules. He preferred I not post his email publicly on Usenet (and well,
I can't really blame him), but if you contact me privately via email
I can hook you up with his email address and he should be able to help
you.

(I've already emailed the original poster with his email address.)
